A tragic altercation at a Surprise shopping center has left one man dead and another facing second-degree murder charges. According to ABC15, the incident occurred on the afternoon of January 18 near Reems Road and Grand Avenue, where police say 29-year-old Logan Metcalf was fatally stabbed by 33-year-old Daniel Nassar. The two men reportedly had a history of conflicts and the fight that led to the stabbing happened in the parking lot shortly before 2:30 p.m., as multiple witnesses called 911. Metcalf was taken to the hospital in serious condition, only to succumb to his injuries later.

In a follow-up to this disturbing scene, bystanders not only reported the fight but also rendered aid to the victim, and some were involved in detaining Nassar until authorities arrived. Witness Ron Fritz, who works at a nearby counseling center, knew Nassar and had interacted with him earlier on the day of the stabbing. Nassar, struggling with depression and homelessness, received food from Fritz only hours before the fight. "I bought him lunch at 1 o'clock. This happened around 2:30," Fritz told FOX10 Phoenix.

Marina Portillo, another witness and local business owner, noted how Daniel Nassar seemed "very nice" in passing and had previously worked at a restaurant in the same shopping center. Speaking to FOX10 Phoenix, she recounted the chaos that unfolded outside: "We heard bunch of commotion and when me and my employees went outside, there was a guy on the ground bleeding out."

Meanwhile, Surprise Police have taken Nassar into custody and the investigation is ongoing. They have appealed to the public for any information regarding the case, urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to reach out to them, as per ABC15.
