In a sobering reminder of the continuous threat of violence in schools, an investigation following a series of threatening social media posts has led to the arrest of an individual associated with the Dennis-Yarmouth School District. According to a statement posted on the Dennis Police Department's Facebook page, the department received reports on December 25 about threats made against students of Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.
The police swiftly moved to closely coordinate with the school's district staff to ultimately identify and interview the suspect responsible for the posts. Precisely a week prior to this year's closure, on December 27, the individual was arraigned in the Orleans District Court, facing charges under MGL 269/14/B, which pertains to bomb or hijack threats that cause serious public alarm.
Details regarding the perpetrator's identity remain withheld, a decision the Dennis Police Department asserts to safeguard the integrity of the ongoing proceedings. Incidents like this deepen parents' and educators' concerns about the safety of children and their learning environments.
