Following reports of gunfire near Madisonville Primary School yesterday morning, a suspect has been detained by law enforcement. According to the WVLT, the Madisonville Police Department (MPD) stated that the shots were fired around 8:30 a.m. along Ingram Street, which led to the school enacting a lockdown protocol and the deployment of MPD's special response team.

As the tense situation unfolded, shots were fired near an occupied patrol vehicle, prompting the MPD to upgrade the school's status to a hard lockdown for ensuring the safety of students and staff, as reported by the WBIR. Having been found on McConkey Street, the suspect was apprehended and is currently facing multiple felony charges.

Residents were also advised to remain indoors under a shelter-in-place order while the authorities managed the crisis. As noted by WIVK, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Monroe County EMS were on the scene in support of the MPD's efforts. The gun associated with the incident was recovered by officers on McConkey Street.
