
Tragedy struck in Pacific Beach when an altercation between two men ended with a fatal shooting. The San Diego Police Department responded to a distress call last night, indicating that a violent dispute at a condominium turned deadly. Authorities say they arrived at the scene to find one man carrying a firearm near the site of the incident, as per the City of San Diego.
The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Chalcedony Street at around 10:15 p.m. Officers located the suspect outside the condo and were able to detain him without further incident. Inside a bedroom, they discovered a 51-year-old white male with a fatal gunshot wound. Despite the arrival of paramedics, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification, the San Diego Police Department reported via email.
San Diego Police Homicide Detectives have since taken over the investigation, probing into the details of the confrontation that prompted the shooting. It is believed that the two men involved knew each other and both had connections to the residence, though it remains unclear what sparked the violence. The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Richard Herrman and has been arrested on murder and weapons charges.
Herrman is being held in jail as detectives continue to unravel the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
