A U.S. Postal Service worker faced a harrowing ordeal in Harvey on Wednesday morning when an armed robber accosted and demanded money from them at gunpoint. The incident occurred just before 10 a.m. on the 15800 block of South Halsted Street, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. The perpetrator, identified as a male, forcibly took two bins filled with packages and the letter carrier's backpack.
Authorities moved swiftly in response to the crime. U.S. Postal Inspectors, while investigating the scene, overheard gunshots which prompted a pursuit leading them to a residence in the 600 block of East 157th Place. Here, three individuals were detained and items including the stolen mail and two firearms were recovered. "The three were taken into custody at the home, where officers recovered the stolen mail and two firearms," Harvey police said as per Sun-Times. The identity of the suspects and the specific charges they face remain pending as the investigation continues by both the Harvey police and USPS officials.

According to their coverage, the suspect who initially targeted the postal worker was armed with a gun that featured a drum magazine. Before the suspect escaped with the mail and packages, they supposedly searched through the postal worker's pockets.
