
A tragic car accident in Forest Park Southeast resulted in the death of a Swansea man early Monday morning, according to reports from local authorities. The accident took place in the 4600 block of McRee at about 6:12 a.m., when a Chevrolet Avalanche driven by 47-year-old Craig Sayres veered off the road for unknown reasons, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The preliminary investigation indicated that after losing control, Sayres' vehicle struck a Nissan Murano which was making a right turn into a parking lot, before then colliding with the Rivertown Foods building; Sayres was transported to the hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries while the driver of the Murano a 25-year-old man was also taken to a hospital and is listed in stable condition, the dynamics of the crash remain under the scrutiny of the Accident Reconstruction team.
Sayres, a resident of the 100 block of Turnbridge Dr. in Swansea, IL, was later identified by the police as the individual who was fatally injured in the crash. The accident, which disrupted early morning traffic and drew emergency services to a residential part of the city, is still under investigation with officials aiming to understand the causative factors that led to the fatal events yesterday.
