
The Metropolitan Police Department has reported the arrest of a 17-year-old male in response to multiple robberies in Northwest, D.C. The young suspect was detained after the most recent incident, which occurred yesterday, at around 12:18 p.m. on the 2000 block of Vermont Avenue, Northwest. According to the report by the Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect appeared to possess a weapon and demanded money from the victim, later transferring funds from the victim’s phone to themselves.
At the scene, officers managed to apprehend the suspect and a handgun was also recovered. The teenager, whose identity has not been released due to his minor status, faces multiple charges. These include Armed Robbery, Carrying a Pistol Without a License, and Possession of Unregistered Firearm and Ammunition, along with Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. The arrest connects him to a series of violent crimes dating back to December 5, 2024, which unfolded in different locations across Northwest D.C.
Specifically, the youth has been linked to armed robberies on Park Road on December 5 and 16, 17th Street on December 18, and 14th Street on December 29. An assault with a dangerous weapon on January 8 in the 3100 block of Hiatt Place, and another robbery by fear the same evening in the 1600 block of Irving Street, Northwest are also part of the charges. The most recent charge before his capture was an armed robbery that occurred on January 20 in the 1300 block of Harvard Street, Northwest.
While the arrest marks progress, the Metropolitan Police Department is continuing their investigation into the robberies. They have issued a call to the community, urging anyone with information to contact the police at (202) 727-9099 or to use the department's TEXT TIP LINE by sending a message to 50411. Moreover, a reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for tips that lead to an arrest and conviction in these violent crime cases. The 17-year-old is currently awaiting further action regarding his charges.
