On New Year's Eve, a deeply unfortunate incident took place in Port St. Lucie, Florida, where a 4-year-old girl sadly drowned in a residential swimming pool. As reported by WPTV News Channel 5 West Palm, the Port St. Lucie Police Department responded urgently to an emergency call about the incident on Tuesday afternoon. Upon their arrival at the 900 block of Southeast Bayfront Avenue around 1:30 p.m., they found the young child on the pool deck with a family member performing CPR.
"About 10 minutes later, an adult family member discovered the child face down in the pool, removed the child from the water, and began CPR," the police department disclosed in a release. It appears the girl had managed to leave the house through an open rear sliding door, ventured out to the pool unsupervised, and mistakenly walked down the pool steps to an area too deep for her to stand. There is no evidence suggesting foul play, and police believe the drowning to be accidental, as per WPTV.
The child was rushed to HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital following the attempt to revive her at the scene. Tragically, the young girl was pronounced dead shortly after 2:30 p.m. The Port St. Lucie Police Department has not released additional details on the matter but has confirmed that the drowning is currently under investigation.
