Drivers navigating Interstate 29 in Holt County may need to plan for some delays starting next week, as a significant slide repair project kicks off between Route W and County Road 110. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, roadworks are set to commence on Monday, Feb. 3rd, promising a safer, more secure stretch of highway upon completion, now expected to stretch into May 2025.
The oncoming construction stems from instability issues plaguing the northbound lanes, where C.P. Excavating, LLC will carry out the necessary rehabilitation. The project entails placing rock fill at the slide location, installing edge drains, and taking steps for erosion control.
Traffic flow will see an immediate impact: once preliminaries are squared away, "crews will close the driving (right) lane and make repairs to the shoulder," necessitating adjustments to travel plans. "All work is weather permitting, and schedules are subject to change," a reminder that mother nature often holds the trump card in executing even the best-laid plans.
