A tragic shooting yesterday afternoon took place in the Soulsville neighborhood of South Memphis, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and placing three others in critical condition. The incident occurred in the 900 block of College Park, nearby the LeMoyne-Owen College; however, the college was not affected by this event according to their communication, as reported by WREG News.
Law enforcement responded to the incident at around 3:35 p.m., and upon arrival, they found five adult victims, one dead at the scene while the other succumbed at the hospital – and the three survivors, now fighting for their lives in critical condition, with investigators rapidly working to piece together the events that led to this frenzy of bullets in a residential home just yards away from both an educational institution and a children's daycare, the area swarmed by emergency responders and faced by the solemn gaze of MPD's Chief C.J. Davis.
According to a statement acquired by FOX13 Memphis, a "disturbance" inside the home led to the exchange of gunfire as described by MPD's Lt. Louis Brownlee. While the specifics of the eruption of violence remained unclear, MPD confirmed that all parties involved have been accounted for, keeping the public suspenseful over the possibility of charges against any survivors.
