
Earlier this morning, a chaotic scene unfolded on Memphis' I-240 East when two Memphis Police Department (MPD) officers were injured following a vehicle crash while they were investigating an earlier hit-and-run incident. Action News 5 reported that the incident occurred around 12:49 a.m. near Walnut Grove, where a white Tahoe unexpectedly plowed into the officers' squad car as they conducted their investigation.
The impact of the collision sent the squad car hurtling towards the two officers, resulting in both sustaining non-critical injuries and necessitating their transport to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the Tahoe was also taken to Regional One Hospital, however, in non-critical condition, according to WREG's coverage of the incident. At this juncture, charges have not been filed as the investigation continues.
The authorities also attended to a fourth individual involved in the initial hit-and-run. This victim, described only as a male in the reports, faced non-critical injuries, and additionally received hospital care. The eastbound lanes on I-240 E and Poplar Avenue experienced a temporary closure following the events, disrupting the usual pre-dawn traffic pattern but reopened.
