A traffic incident in University City yesterday afternoon resulted in significant injuries for two teenagers. According to the San Diego Police Department, a 39-year-old male driving a 2016 Mazda 3 collided with an electric bicycle carrying two 16-year-olds as the car was making a left turn onto the westbound onramp of Highway 52.

The accident, which occurred around 4:55 p.m. at the intersection of Genesee Ave and Highway 52, involved the Mazda turning in front of the southbound electric bicycle, resulting in a crash. The two teenagers, a male rider and a female passenger, were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The male sustained a fractured femur, and the female suffered abrasions, though the injuries are said to be non-life-threatening. The driver of the Mazda was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The San Diego Police Department Traffic Division is currently investigating the circumstances of the collision. At the time, Officer J. Perales, the Watch Commander, stated that their department was handling the investigation.
