Following the chaos that erupted yesterday in New Orleans, U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans released a statement expressing his "heartfelt thoughts, prayers, and condolences" to the victims of the Bourbon Street attack. The statement, issued from the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana, also acknowledged the "valiant" efforts of the law enforcement officers who confronted the violence at great risk to themselves.
Addressing the efforts being taken to ensure public safety and support the ongoing investigation, Evans noted that the Department of Justice, in tandem with federal, state, and local enforcement partners, is hard at work. A group of Assistant U.S. Attorneys and a Department of Justice National Security Division prosecutor have been tasked with providing legal support and counsel. "Since yesterday morning," the statement says, "this team worked diligently at command stations situated within our office and FBI New Orleans," as stated by the United States Attorney's Office.
The investigation remains "fluid," according to the United States Attorney's Office, which iterates the importance of public vigilance and safety. The call for assistance extends to anyone who might have information related to the attack. Individuals with photos or videos that could be useful to law enforcement are urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or through their website dedicated to this incident.
Shane M. Jones, Public Information Officer for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana, has been identified as a point of contact for further public communications. The department's dedication to navigating the aftermath of this tragedy was clear in Evans' words, "Our current role in this situation is to provide counsel and guidance and legal resources to our fellow law enforcement agencies as part of the ongoing investigation."
