A lockdown was triggered at Northstar Academy in Redwood City yesterday after a report of an alleged armed pursuit on campus turned out to be unfounded, according to local law enforcement officials.
The incident began when 32-year-old Eddi Gonzalezgarcia reported to police that he was being chased by a man with a gun, which spurred police response and immediate safety protocols at the school located at 400 Duane St. However, upon examination of security footage and inconsistencies in Gonzalezgarcia's claims, it became clear that his narrative did not align with the evidence, according to a press release from the Redwood City Police Department. Officers noted signs of stimulant use by Gonzalezgarcia and determined there was never an armed suspect present on school grounds.
Authorities have since arrested Gonzalezgarcia for being under the influence of a controlled substance and have booked him into the Maguire Correctional Facility. The man is being held for violating the Health and Safety Code 11550(a).
