As the offseason moves unfold and anticipation builds for a new season of Hurricanes football, one question stands out at the University of Miami: When will quarterback Carson Beck return to the field? After undergoing surgery in December, the Hurricanes are eagerly awaiting the full return of their transfer QB.
According to WSVN, Beck, the former Georgia standout who led the Bulldogs to a 24-3 record, has already bonded with his teammates as they prepare for the 2025 season. However, the timeline for his return to throwing is still uncertain. Miami coach Mario Cristobal remains optimistic despite not having a fixed recovery date, saying, "There's always hope. You know, the sooner the better. I know we went through examinations yesterday and everything’s ahead of schedule. I’ll probably have more clarity in maybe a couple of weeks, so I’d hate to say this or that. I know that certainly for the summertime everything is scheduled to be full-throttle, full-go. But there is anticipation of maybe earlier. I just don’t have it yet."
Despite his injury during the Southeastern Conference championship game, there is hope that Beck will start throwing in the spring. While recovery from an ulnar collateral ligament repair is complex, the Hurricanes are unsure of his exact return timeline. However, they are pleased with securing Beck, as he is a significant addition to the program through the transfer portal.
The presence of Cam Ward, another standout transfer at Miami, continues to shape the narrative. After criticisms of Ward leaving the team following the Pop-Tarts Bowl, Cristobal defended his player, stating, "Cam has been an exceptional, an elite Miami Hurricane as a competitor, as a player, as a teammate," in a statement reported by NBC Sports. Cristobal rejected the idea that Ward quit on the team, explaining that strategic decisions were made that were best for everyone. He expressed confidence that Ward's legacy would last for generations and has high hopes for his future in the NFL.
Cristobal has high praise for Beck, both for his abilities on the field and his qualities off it. "He’s athletic, he’s smart, he’s got superior arm talent, he’s accurate, he can extend plays, he can also sit in the pocket, he runs well," Cristobal told NBC Sports. He also values Beck's drive to be great, highlighting his leadership and self-critical approach to the game—qualities that make him a promising quarterback for the Hurricanes in the near future.
