A leisurely day in the Peoria desert turned precarious when a UTV crash resulted in one individual being hospitalized in critical condition and two others sustaining injuries. The accident, which took place near 163rd Avenue and Dove Valley Road, saw a 69-year-old man critically injured after their off-road vehicle flipped multiples times.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Peoria Police indicated that the UTV was carrying three passengers when the incident occurred in the West Valley, a locale known for its rugged terrain and popularity among off-roading enthusiasts. Witnesses and aerial footage showed the UTV, a blue vehicle, extensively damaged and tipped on its side, laying bare the raw forces at play.
In a statement obtained by Arizona's Family, authorities confirmed their response to the emergency around noon yesterday. The investigators are still piecing together the circumstances behind the rollover, while the current condition of the critically injured person has been described as stable but serious.
Concerns about safety in such off-roading adventures were highlighted by Sgt. Shelly Montes of the Peoria Police Department. "You shouldn't go fast on those because they're extremely dangerous and obviously, wear your protective gear," she told FOX 10 Phoenix. Montes also advised on knowing one's capabilities as a driver and having a plan for contacting emergency services, which can be challenging is remote areas with low signal strength. Emergency services managed to airlift the victims to a local hospital for treatment. The other two passengers involved in the accident suffered minor injuries.
