Portland's Sunday Parkways events transform streets into spaces for walking and cycling. In 2024, 242 volunteers contributed 1,470 hours to support these events, according to the City of Portland.
Volunteers take on various roles, from managing information booths to overseeing car-free streets where people gather. Last year, 47% of volunteers were first-timers, while the returning volunteers played a key role in supporting the events, as reported by the City of Portland.
Volunteers with diverse backgrounds work together to create a welcoming and active environment in Portland. As Daniel, a returning volunteer, said, "I love how all ages & types & demographics all come out for a big, shared experience on bicycles. Everyone has a good time." Liz, a first-time volunteer, shared, "It was a friendly, open event. I saw lots of people having fun. Many friendly, happy people were able to enjoy the nice day. This was a wonderful, family-friendly event!" Phil noted, "Assisting the community with keeping the public really happy and active during the summer!" Volunteers are being sought for 2025, and those interested can contact [email protected] or visit the Sunday Parkways website for more information, as stated by the City of Portland.
