The Arizona community is grappling with the loss of Willie Harvey, a security guard and father of four who was shot and killed at a West Phoenix apartment complex earlier this month. Harvey was fatally wounded on Jan. 6 during an argument that escalated to gunfire, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. Described as a "gentle giant" who put family first and aimed to create positive change, Harvey's death has left a void in the hearts of many including his loved ones and team members from The Arizona Roll Tide football team.
In connection with the tragic incident, police have arrested 39-year-old Jovante Harvey. Jovante faces charges including second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Court documents reveal he was taken into custody following a shootout that resulted in one death and two critical injuries. Despite sharing a surname, Willie and Jovante were not related, per details obtained by AZ Family.
Willie Harvey's dedication to his community was evident through his work as a security guard at Phoenix West Apartments. He has been remembered for his efforts to foster change and provide security at the complex where the shooting took place. According to an interview, Shaneika Harvey, a relative of Willie, recounted how he was tirelessly on call, aiding people in times of need. "It's a fallen brother. He was our guy," teammate Kyl Bodwin told FOX 10 Phoenix, expressing the profound impact of the loss.
The family of Willie Harvey is currently organizing a fundraiser to transport Willie back to Florida for a proper burial. To assist in this effort, a GoFundMe page has been set up by the family. Those wishing to support can visit the page – details of which were shared in an article by FOX 10 Phoenix. Jovante Harvey remains in custody on a $1.5 million cash-only bond.
