Earlier today, a fire broke out in a multi-family building on Saratoga Street in East Boston, displacing 33 residents. The Boston Fire Department responded to the scene around 5 a.m. after reports of smoke and fire coming from the property. Upon arrival, fire crews found flames affecting all three floors of the building, according to Boston 25 News.
In response to the situation, all occupants of the building evacuated quickly, with no injuries reported, according to Deputy Fire Chief James Greene. Despite the efforts of firefighters, the flames spread to nearby buildings, leading to additional evacuations. The fire department stated that battling the fire was challenging due to icy conditions and overhead wires, which presented significant risks.
Footage of the incident circulating on social media showed the severity of the fire, with firefighters using ladders to access third-story windows, which they had to break. The Boston Fire Department shared updates on their efforts through a social media post, and Deputy Chief James Greene briefed the media on the situation. Following the fire, the Red Cross of Massachusetts provided housing assistance to those affected.

While the immediate crisis has passed, the aftermath continues for the 33 individuals who have been displaced. The Boston Fire Department's Fire Investigation Unit is working to determine the cause of the fire, with the investigation still ongoing.
