
In a tragic incident in Americus, Georgia, a 5-year-old girl died, and two others were critically injured in a shooting on the evening of last Saturday. The shooting took place in the 600 block of Eastview Circle around 8:30 p.m., prompting the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to take over the case.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation press release, 19-year-old Ricky Martin of Americus has been arrested and charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Aggravated Battery. Martin was booked into Sumter County Jail. The second victim, 19-year-old Jotavis Roshon Leverette, died from his injuries at the hospital. The third victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but their identity and condition have not been released.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found multiple people with gunshot wounds, including 5-year-old Peyton Brielle Roberts. She was taken to Phoebe Sumter Hospital but did not survive. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is continuing to investigate, gathering information and conducting interviews.
