In a troubling incident that unfolded in Northwest Atlanta, a 57-year-old woman was shot and subsequently transported to the hospital for medical treatment. According to the Atlanta Police Department, the shooting occurred yesterday, in the afternoon on Simmons St. NW.
The Atlanta Police responded to the scene after receiving a call at about 3:43 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the victim with a gunshot wound. Although injured, she was alert, conscious and breathing when officers arrived. She was immediately taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of her injuries. Multiple individuals were detained by the police, at the scene, though their connection to the shooting has yet to be clarified.
Investigators with Atlanta's Aggravated Assault Unit are currently looking into the situation, attempting to piece together the events that led up to the shooting. No further details regarding the motive or circumstances have been released as the investigation is still active. As of now, no arrests have been made and the names of those involved have not been disclosed.
