A hit-and-run incident in San Ysidro has left a 71-year-old man with a leg fracture, according to a news release from the San Diego Police Department. The accident occurred yesterday as the man was crossing 100 Via De San Ysidro at the intersection with West Calle Primera.
The area, marked with a no pedestrian crossing sign, was where a vehicle, possibly a red Jeep, was reportedly traveling eastbound on West Calle Primera before making a northbound turn onto Via De San Ysidro. Then, the elderly man abruptly ran into the lanes of traffic, subsequently colliding with the vehicle's driver's side. After the impact, the man fell onto the street, and the involved vehicle quickly left the scene. The man's injury was deemed non-life threatening, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The San Diego Police Department has yet to confirm if alcohol played a role in the incident as the investigation continues.
Officer J. Perales, the SDPD Watch Commander, reported that the injured male had sustained a leg fracture. Following the incident, there is an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information related to this hit-and-run. The Traffic Division of the San Diego Police Department will be handling the ongoing investigation.
