The City of Acworth has recently been honored with a PlanFirst Community designation by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, a recognition that shines a light on the city's efforts in sustainable urban planning and engagement with citizens. The official ceremony took place at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, where city officials were acknowledged for their dedication to creating a high-quality living environment through careful and responsible city planning.
Among the delegation from Acworth, Aldermen Tim Houston, Toby Carmichael, and Steve Prather were present along with Development Director Alex Almodovar, and Zoning Administrator Aaron Brown. In the spirit of camaraderie and support, State Representatives Lisa Campbell and Ginny Ehrhart, and State Senator Ed Setzler, welcomed the Acworth officials to the Capitol. Additionally, Marietta City Councilman Joseph Goldstein attended the event, showing solidarity and support for the neighbor city's achievements.
Acknowledging the recognition, Acworth's official statement touched upon the city's commitment to "responsible city planning to create a sustainable quality of life for our residents and visitors." The PlanFirst designation is not a mere pat on the back but rather a testament to Acworth's consistent show of public involvement, strong adherence to comprehensive planning, and significant strides towards its community goals. This accolade serves as a beacon for other cities, encouraging the implementation of inclusive and practical urban development strategies.
It's worth noting that the PlanFirst status isn't permanent – it's a designation that communities must re-earn every three years. Acworth, by embodying a progressive approach to urban management, has set a high bar for its future development endeavors. The city's officials, brimming with pride and a sense of responsibility, have expressed their gratitude to the Department of Community Affairs for acknowledging their hard work and commitment to the principles of the PlanFirst program, and for fostering a community embraced by its people.
