An Amazon delivery driver in Coronado demonstrated remarkable composure during a harrowing carjacking attempt yesterday morning, as reported by the City of Coronado Police Department. The incident unfolded just before 7 a.m. in the 300 block of E Avenue, where a man attempted to hijack the vehicle of a 33-year-old woman working as a delivery driver using her car.
The assailant barged into the passenger side of her car, demanding a lift to Chula Vista. Upon her refusal, he began to strike the dashboard, break a computer screen inside her vehicle, and grapple with the steering wheel. His violent outburst also included attempts to punch and push the delivery driver out of her car. Yet, amid the chaos, the driver kept her wits and managed to call 911. Noticing her communication with law enforcement, the perpetrator vacated the car, fleeing on foot.
According to the social media post issued by the City of Coronado Police Department, their quick response led to the suspect's apprehension without further conflict. The would-be carjacker revealed to be a 26-year-old man, was discovered hiding in a backyard in the 300 block of the D-E alley. He was subsequently arrested and transported to jail.
