
On the evening of last Saturday, gunshots erupted in an Americus neighborhood, leaving a 5-year-old girl dead and two others injured. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Eastview Circle. The victim, identified as 5-year-old Peyton Brielle Roberts, was playing outside when she was struck by a stray bullet. A 19-year-old male sustained critical injuries and was taken to Phoebe Sumter Hospital, while another person was injured but not seriously. The 19-year-old victim remains in critical condition after being transferred to another hospital.
As of now, no arrests have been made, but the Americus Police have identified a person of interest, as WALB News reported. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is leading the investigation and interviewing witnesses. Americus Police responded to the call and found the victims in distress. A memorial has been set up where the shooting occurred.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
