On Tuesday in San Leandro, the Quik Stop convenience store on MacArthur Boulevard became the site of an armed robbery. According to a report by the San Leandro Police Department (SLPD), at approximately 2:15 p.m., the police responded to a call from the establishment after a man, later identified as Deamous McKinley, 51, of Oakland, wielded a handgun and commanded the store clerk to hand over cash, which the clerk did without resistance.

Investigators were quick to spring into action, turning to the digital eyes that watch over the city; public safety cameras helped piece together the escape route, revealing that the suspect vehicle, also reported as stolen, was last seen heading towards Oakland, McKinley. With the past weighing heavy upon him, already marked by the law as a felon, he was once again ensnared by law enforcement, this time in the stolen getaway car near the juncture of Foothill Boulevard and 23rd Avenue.

The SLPD, in tandem with the Oakland Police Department's air unit, coordinated and successfully apprehended McKinley. During the arrest, officials recovered both the firearm used in the heist and the stolen money.
