On Monday, Jose Soto, a 33-year-old Boston resident, was arrested by Boston Police Department's Drug Control Unit officers for fentanyl trafficking. The arrest took place near the intersection of Melnea Cass Boulevard and Massachusetts Avenue, an area commonly referred to as "Mass & Cass," where residents have repeatedly reported narcotics-related activities.
Officers had been keeping a watchful eye on Soto, who was seen suspiciously driving around the neighborhood. According to the Boston Police Department's statement, Soto eventually parked and stayed inside his vehicle, all the while quickly looking at his phone and checking his surroundings. These actions led officers to believe that he was waiting for a potential buyer. This suspicion seemed to be confirmed when an unidentified male approached the car and appeared to carry out a drug transaction with Soto.
With the scene deemed incriminating enough, officers moved to coordinate a traffic stop. They engaged their emergency signals and brought Soto's vehicle to a halt on Montrose Street. A search of the vehicle ensued, whereupon the officers discovered seventeen small bags containing what they suspected to be fentanyl, all stored within a larger plastic bag. An undisclosed sum of money was also found.
Following the discovery, Soto was arrested and is set to face charges outlined in an arraignment at Roxbury District Court. The charges he's expected to address include Trafficking Class A Drugs (Fentanyl), with an amount ranging from 14-27 grams. This incident is part of ongoing efforts by the C-6 Drug Control Unit to curb drug-related offenses in the Mass & Cass area, as highlighted by the Boston Police Department report.
