A standoff in Brighton ended tragically with one suspect dead and three deputies wounded, local authorities said. The Adams County Sheriff's Office reported that law enforcement was serving a warrant when they encountered a woman who barricaded herself, claiming to have hostages. The deputies were assisting the Colorado Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force at a residence located at 20400 E. 160th Ave. The encounter began at around 8 a.m. Thursday and transitioned into a barricade situation after the woman inside refused to cooperate, as reported by 9News.

During the standoff, a shelter-in-place order was issued for the neighborhood, and a detour was set up along the 5200 block of Bridge Street. The Adams County Sheriff's Office informed that the crisis negotiation team attempted multiple communication methods to de-escalate the situation but the woman remained uncooperative. Surrounding the home where the suspect was firing shots, a safety perimeter was established, as per CBS Colorado.

After several hours of negotiation, the occupants inside the house were able to leave unharmed. It was at approximately 11:30 a.m. when SWAT made their approach to breach the barricade and were met with gunfire by the suspect. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office stated, "Several deputies fired back while attempting to move out of the path of the gunfire," resulting in three officers being struck, fortunately sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. All three were later treated and released from medical care, as detailed by KDVR.
