In Buckeye, a 16-year-old boy on an electric motorcycle led police on a chase that ended with his arrest, and the pursuit showcased the expanding role of drones in law enforcement tactics. The incident, which occurred last Saturday evening near Verrado Way and Sunshine, began when the teen failed to stop at a stop sign and subsequently fled from the police vehicle behind him, FOX 10 Phoenix reports.
Officers deployed a drone to track the suspect as he made several dangerous moves, including speeding through a park, racing down a golf course path, and driving the wrong way on Victory Boulevard. After an attempt to stop the teen near Pasadena and 206th Ave, where he tried to flee again, the drone continued to follow him. Eventually, the drone spotted him pushing the motorcycle on foot, which led to his arrest, as per a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix.
The young man now faces multiple charges, including felony flight, reckless driving, and violating curfew, as detailed by KOLD News. The incident also resulted in citations for lacking a proper motorcycle endorsement, no current registration, and no insurance.
The teen, whose identity is withheld due to being processed as a minor, demonstrates the use of technology in modern policing.
