Paul Ramos, a Buckeye Public Works employee, was awarded the Meritorious Community Service Award last Wednesday for his role in assisting police with the apprehension of a violent suspect. The recognition was given in response to his actions during an incident in November, as reported by the City of Buckeye.
On November 27, 2024, a City of Buckeye truck was stolen from a work site and later crashed into a parked vehicle. Buckeye authorities reported that Ramos, who observed the crash, immediately called 911. He then took action to restrain the suspect in self-defense. The individual continued to resist, assaulting two officers before being taken into custody and facing multiple felony charges.
Deputy Chief Charles Bezio of the Buckeye police presented Ramos with the Meritorious Community Service Award in recognition of his actions. The commendation highlighted the role of community involvement in supporting public safety. Officers involved in the November incident were also present to acknowledge Ramos' contribution, as noted by the City of Buckeye.
