Friday night lights finally shone down on Canutillo High School's baseball and softball fields, marking a historic first for the school as it hosted its inaugural night home games, made possible by the recent installation of a high-tech lighting system through funds from the 2024 Canutillo Bond as reported by Canutillo Independent School District.

The momentous switch-on of the $620,000 enlightened setup not only brightened the players' field but also the spirits of everyone involved and it was Canutillo's commitment to utilize the voter-approved $386.2 million bond to its full potential, bringing transformative changes to the district, becoming the first completed project, the system features modern conveniences like wireless controls and the ability to save energy while also packing a visual punch with color-changing capabilities said Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz during the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The upgraded lighting infrastructure, detailed by Canutillo Independent School District, aims to alleviate the issues faced by student-athletes who previously had to leave classes early to play games before dark, impacting their academic schedule – a challenge that Canutillo High Principal Candice Marrufo highlighted as a significant sacrifice on the students' part.

With the new lights now in play, school officials expect that their student-athletes can perform at peak levels without the added pressure of missed classroom time and the community along with the students can look forward to embracing the full potential of their academic and athletic programs and this opens the door for the community and its supporters to attend games during more accommodating evening hours, fostering greater attendance and support for the high school's teams.
