Residents and commuters in the Castle Rock area should prepare for upcoming road closures tied to the construction of the new Crystal Valley Parkway bridge, a project that marks a significant phase of infrastructure development in the region. As reported by Douglas County, this endeavor aims to connect the east and west sides of Interstate 25 by placing new bridge structures, a task necessitating phase-based temporary road closures.
Starting on Monday, Feb. 17, and continuing through Thursday, Feb. 20, West Frontage Road will see daily interruptions from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drivers will need to adapt to these changes, as access will be restricted south of Plum Creek Parkway, past the I-25 on-ramp. Local traffic along Yucca Hills Road will remain open, however, Twin Oaks residents will be redirected, utilizing the Peak View Drive entrance via Wolfensberger Road as their primary detour route.
The project, which requires the installment of 53 distinct bridge girders, will introduce additional closures on I-25 for nighttime construction between Sunday, Feb. 23, and Wednesday, Feb. 26. The largest of these girders spans 130 feet, weighs a tremendous 80,000 pounds, and the installation process calls for the coordination of two sizeable cranes, which together will be facilitating these massive structures into their designated place above the bustling interstate.
Furthermore, on the nights of Sunday, Feb. 23, and Monday, Feb. 24, southbound I-25 will be fully closed from Exit 181 (Plum Creek Parkway) to Exit 174 (Tomah Road) from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Traffic will be detoured onto East Frontage Road as an alternative route, while Crystal Valley Parkway will find itself completely closed to and from East Frontage Road from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning. For those traveling north, I-25 will condense to a single lane between the same exits starting at 8 p.m. until the early morning hours, with West Frontage Road meeting a full closure at Plum Creek Parkway.
