The violent outcome echoing from Freedom Drive started off as a verbal altercation progressing towards fatal gunfire between two men over a matter regarding ongoing domestic violence, as reported by WBTV.

The aftermath of the dispute was promptly responded to by officers around 7:30 p.m. yesterday near an Amoco gas station, not far from the on-ramp to I-85, unfortunately arriving after a man suffering a gunshot wound had already driven himself to Atrium Health Mercy, where he succumbed to his injuries. As detailed by WCNC Charlotte, Major JD Thomas of CMPD shared that the initial verbal exchange escalated after pepper spray was deployed, leading the men to exchange gunfire.

CMPD further confirmed the death of the man taken to the hospital and stated that the suspect involved in the shootout remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
