Residents of Gage Park, Englewood, and Chicago Lawn are on high alert after a string of armed robberies hit their neighborhoods. A community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department reports assailants using a stolen white Jeep Grand Cherokee to commit a series of robberies at gunpoint. The incidents all occurred on the morning of February 1, according to the Chicago Police Department website.
The robbers, armed and sometimes violently pistol-whipping their victims, demanded valuables before making a getaway. The crimes took place within just 18 minutes, hitting the 5500 and 5600 blocks of S. Mozart St. in Gage Park, along with the 6500 block of S. Laflin St. in Englewood and the 6200 block of S. Artesian Ave. in Chicago Lawn, respectively.
Authorities have not yet provided a detailed offender description but urge the public to note and report any unique physical characteristics of individuals they suspect may be involved. The community is advised to remain vigilant, be aware of their surroundings, and watch for any suspicious activity.
