Drivers in Chicago's 17th (Albany Park) District should prepare to see an increase in police presence this weekend. According to the Chicago Police Department's announcement, a DUI Saturation Patrol is set to deploy from Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 6 p.m. until Sunday at 2 a.m. The operation's aim is to monitor and deter impaired driving vigorously, with a keen eye also on speed, alcohol-related offenses, and safety belt compliance.

The deployment of the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit will expedite the charging of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) cases. This mobile unit facilitates the issuance of Individual Recognizance Bonds (I-Bonds) right at the patrol location, aiming to streamline the process and mitigate delays.

In a recent operation within the 19th (Town Hall) District, the effectiveness of such patrols was notable. The report detailed 40 total citations, split among various violations, from unsafe vehicles (10 citations) to insurance (3) and driving without a valid license (5). However, there were no charges for Driving Under the Influence, open liquor, seat belt, or distracted driving during the February 8-9 patrol.

The Chicago Police Department's strategy aims to make the streets safer by not only apprehending those choosing to drive recklessly but also preventatively enforcing traffic laws.
