The winter storm that swept through Clarksville has led to harsh road conditions resulting in over 100 vehicle incidents. According to a report by WKRN, Clarksville Police Department (CPD) officers were called to at least 14 injury crashes, 61 property damage incidents, and 40 motorist assists since Tuesday night. Clarksville residents are advised to limit travel unless it is absolutely necessary, echoing CPD's guidance due to the ongoing hazardous conditions.
While the crews from the Clarksville Street Department and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) are working to clear the roads, Scott Beaubien from CPD reminded citizens that "bridges and overpasses tend to freeze before roadways." According to ClarksvilleNow, residents were advised to drive cautiously, keeping in mind the increased likelihood of icy conditions on these structures. Winter conditions captured by video show numerous vehicles, including an ambulance, grappling with the snow on Tiny Town Road, highlighting the treacherous travel circumstances.
Earlier preparation efforts by TDOT were detailed as they sprayed brine and coated approximately 11,000 miles of roads with salt in anticipation of the snow event. Despite these measures, TDOT reported responding to 92 incidents across Middle Tennessee since Tuesday evening. This information was obtained from WKRN's coverage of the ongoing weather crisis.
To keep up to date with live conditions, Clarksville provides live traffic cameras that demonstrate real-time views of key intersections and roadways for the public's benefit. This system offers residents the chance to evaluate the road situation from the safety of their homes, an initiative emphasized by local authorities. Working diligently to clear the roads, the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) also spent Monday pre-treating 2,400 miles of roadway as reported by a statement obtained by Clarksville Online.
