On Sunday morning, Cleveland's West Side residents witnessed unusual activity as the Cleveland Fire Department tackled two separate fires at the same house hours apart. The house, situated in the 4000 block of W. 140th Street, first caught ablaze around 4 a.m. Subsequently, a second fire emerged at the location later that morning, in an incident that the Cleveland Fire Department has labeled as rare, according to News 5 Cleveland.
In the course of battling the blazes, a firefighter sustained injuries to his neck. Back, reportedly during the emergency response to the second fire, as per Cleveland.com, the firefighter was then taken to MetroHealth Medical Center and is said to be in stable condition. At the same time, it was further noted by the fire department spokesperson, Lt. Mike Norman, that the firefighter only responded to the second incident. Not the earlier one alarms were initially set off by smoke detection, alerting the home's occupant who was able to evacuate safely, in a statement obtained by Cleveland19.
Both instances of fire have been deemed accidental with an electrical origin, leaving the property with damages estimated to be around $150,000. The structure likely has been dealt a blow too severe for repair, a verdict that ranks it as a total loss. The quick succession of these events has prompted an ongoing investigation. However, no clear cause has yet surfaced to explain the rare phenomenon of two fires in quick succession at a single dwelling.
