Travelers navigating through St. James and Lafourche parishes should gear up for some delays as construction takes over portions of LA 20. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), two projects, H.013116 & H.009481A, are currently shaping the roads, aiming for safety enhancement and width expansion.

Construction on LA 20, starting yesterday, will cause intermittent lane closures between LA 643 and LA 307. Weekday travel will be affected from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday. On weekends, closures will begin at 7:00 PM on Friday and end by 5:00 AM on Monday. Although there will be disruptions, one lane will remain open at all times, with flaggers managing traffic through the construction zone.

Drivers should be aware that oversized loads wider than 12 feet won’t be allowed through during this construction period. Those with larger convoys should contact the DOTD permit office to plan an alternate route. The DOTD thanks the public for their patience and reminds everyone to drive carefully around work crews and equipment as they continue their progress.

As infrastructure development moves forward, the DOTD reminds the public that traffic disruptions may change. Bad weather could force adjustments to the schedule.
