DeKalb County is inviting public input on proposed changes to its voting sites, aiming to improve efficiency and accessibility for voters. At a meeting scheduled for tomorrow, residents can share their opinions on the DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) plans for polling site adjustments. The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at the DeKalb VRE office and will also be streamed live for broader accessibility.
DeKalb County is offering multiple ways for residents to share their voting experiences, both in person and online. The main event will take place at 4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 300, in Decatur, with three additional satellite locations at libraries in Tucker, Chamblee, and Decatur. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual option is available, allowing participants to engage from home. DeKalb County's announcement promises a chance for community members, to offer first-hand insights that will inform future decisions.
Keisha Smith, DeKalb VRE's executive director, describes this push for community engagement as part of their dedication to leading the way in election management. "As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering the gold standard in elections, DeKalb VRE is proposing strategic updates to optimize polling locations," Smith stated. Their aim is to pinpoint and revamp underperforming polling spots, those tricky to access or lacking in basic amenities, based on real-world constituents' experiences. It's all in the service of an equitable, seamless voting experience for DeKalb's denizens, as noted by the county's official website.
After tomorrow’s meeting, DeKalb VRE will present its proposed polling site changes and outline the next steps. Community feedback from the meeting and an upcoming public survey will help shape the final decision. Any approved changes will mean new polling locations for some voters, though efforts are being made to minimize disruption. Residents can contact DeKalb VRE by phone or email or visit their website after the meeting for more details.
