Knoxville is set to replace old parking meters with the new ParkMobile system in Downtown. According to the City of Knoxville website, the changes will begin in March, and residents are encouraged to download the ParkMobile app in preparation.

Starting on Saturday, workers will begin updating parking signs and meter posts. The update is part of a broader parking plan that has been in development since last year. As a result, on-street parking rates will increase starting March 10. Two-hour zones will go from $1.50 to $2 per hour, and four-hour zones will rise from $0.30 to $1 per hour. The current 10-hour maximum zones will be replaced with a uniform 4-hour limit.

Despite the price hike, some free parking options remain. Parking will still be free on nights and weekends, and the 15-minute free Stop-n-Go spots will remain available for quick errands. City garages will also continue to accept cash payments.

The City of Knoxville aims to make the transition smooth by balancing traditional parking methods with the new digital system.
