For residents and travelers in the East Valley, prepare for a series of ramp closures starting Sunday night, as reported by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). These closures are part of the ongoing widening projects for Loop 101 and Loop 202, and they are expected to last for approximately two months, with an end date tentatively set around mid-April.
Specifically, the westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Gilbert Road and the northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Cactus Road will be closed to traffic. These closures begin at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, and at 1 a.m. on Monday, February 10, respectively, according to information provided by ADOT. Commuters will need to seek alternative routes, such as the westbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Cooper or Lindsay roads, and the northbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Shea Boulevard or Raintree Drive.
The closures will allow construction crews to carry out the necessary work to reconstruct these ramps to integrate with the new lanes being added. This is part of a broader initiative to expand the capacity of these freeways and improve traffic flow in the area. The stretch affected includes Loop 101 from Shea Boulevard to Pima Road/Princess Drive and Loop 202 from Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to Val Vista Drive.
Funding for these infrastructure projects comes from the Regional Transportation Plan, which is managed by the Maricopa Association of Governments.
