El Paso Independent School District is doubling down on its efforts to support student success with the announcement of its Spring Intersession program. Scheduled for March 5 to March 7, the initiative is designed to offer extra academic support to students from grades 1 through 12. The program will be particularly targeting areas such as Math and Reading for the younger students, while also providing high schoolers with credit recovery options and test preparation, as reported by El Paso ISD.
In addition to the intersession program, the district has rolled out the IMPACT tutoring program across several campuses. Since its inception on February 3, it has conducted over 1,600 sessions. Phillip Hash, Director of Academic Operations, Teaching & Learning for the district, spoke about the reception of the new tutoring initiative, sharing, "We are thrilled with the response to the IMPACT tutoring program, and the positive impact it is having on our students." He further stressed the importance of such support by adding, "These sessions provide targeted support that helps students build confidence and bridge learning gaps. Our goal is to ensure every student has the resources they need to succeed," as obtained by El Paso ISD.
The daily schedule for the Spring Intersession varies by grade level. Elementary students are set to receive instruction from 8:25 a.m. to 2:55 p.m., while those in middle and PK-8 schools will work from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. High school students will have a slightly later session from 9:00 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. Each participating school will provide transportation and meals to the attending students, in a move to ensure equal access to the program's benefits.
For logistical ease, certain schools will host students from nearby campuses during the intersession. For instance, while Lamar Elementary students will report to Mesita Elementary, attendees from Newman Elementary are set to go to Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 School. This information aids in smoothing out the process for both parents and students alike as they plan their schedules during the intersession period.
