The El Paso Community College (EPCC) baseball team continued to dominate the field with another series win, this time against Western Oklahoma State College, as reported by EPCC Media. The Tejanos came out strong, closing the weekend with three victories out of four games, maintaining their impressive early season record. EPCC Media reported standout performances including Gethse Ulloa's seven-inning, ten-strikeout stint that contributed to Friday's 7-3 victory.
Winning Saturday's doubleheader with scores of 2-0 and 6-2, the EPCC team saw Jack Gallegos pitching a shutout in the first game, a feat not taken lightly by their opponents. During the fourth game on Sunday, the team faced their sole weekend loss with a score of 4-2, yet salvaged a good hit against a tough Western Oklahoma squad. In a recent turn of events, three EPCC players received accolades for their exceptional play on the field. Yahir Acevedo, Alan Nava, and Carlos Mauldin, each hitting home runs in succession, earned them the Whataburger Whataplay of the Week award, as presented by Viridiana Salas, Whataburger Market Leader, and Regional Field Marketing Manager Tania Moran.
On deck for the Tejanos are the upcoming games against Luna Community College, with back-to-back doubleheaders scheduled for Friday, February 28, and Saturday, March 1, starting at 11 a.m., bringing with them a promise of further extending their record. According to EPCC Media, the games promise to be a test of the team's sustained performance as they face off against Luna Community College.
In contrast, EPCC's softball team has faced a series of setbacks on the road, dropping two doubleheaders to Ranger College and Cisco College with final scores reflecting a hard-fought battle, but ultimately losses for the team. The EPCC Tejanos, bearing a season record of 4-8, will look to swing back from their defeats as they prepare for a four-game series starting Friday, February 28 at Luna Community College, bringing an opportunity to improve upon their current standing.
