Early Thursday morning, Fayetteville firefighters tackled a blaze at a multi-unit commercial retail building behind the familiar establishments of Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Waffle House. According to City of Fayetteville's official release, the call about the fire at 692 North Glynn Street came in around 2:42 a.m. Fire crews managed to quickly contain the fire that had erupted within the confines of The Great Store Furniture. Thankfully, there have been no injuries reported in the wake of the incident.
The Great Store Furniture was where the fire remained confined, but the repercussions extended beyond its own suite. The CITY stated that neighboring suites were not spared as they were blanketed in smoke and some were further marred by water, following the firefighters' efforts. Consequently, every business housed in the threatened structure will remain closed until they are deemed safe to resume operation. As each storefront in that building stands shuttered, the livelihoods of those who run and frequent them hang in an unwelcome suspension.
In a joint effort, the Fayetteville Police, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, and the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services arrived on the scene to manage the situation. The City of Fayetteville's release appreciated the prompt response and coordinated efforts of all the departments involved.
As for the fire's origin, the Fayetteville Fire Department continues to search for answers. They have taken up the mantle of investigation to uncover what sparked the flames that disrupted the early hours along North Glynn Street.
