An apartment complex in Northwest Oklahoma City was engulfed in flames on Saturday afternoon, necessitating a response from local firefighters and resulting in several residents being displaced. The fire, reported near NW 10th and Peniel, prompted emergency crews to hasten to the scene shortly after 4 p.m. Initially believed to be clear of tenants, it soon emerged there was a man still trapped inside, as reported by KFOR.
Upon arriving at the complex that stood amid the confusion of a typical city bustle, the firefighters were faced with the task of rescuing the unsuspecting resident, discovering him only after embarking on their emergency protocols. A clash with the blaze as he opened his door led to the man's exposure to dense smoke, and "he opened his door and the fire blew in on him," Major Dane Yaw of the Oklahoma City Fire Department elucidated in a statement obtained by News 9. The victim was successfully rescued and treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
