Fort Collins is on the move to better connect its residents and the Colorado State University community. The city recently launched a public engagement campaign for the design of the West Elizabeth Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. This ambitious project is set to boost transportation options along the West Elizabeth Street corridor, linking the Main and Foothills campuses of CSU, as per an announcement made by the city. The BRT line is anticipated to span a three-mile stretch, facilitating easier access to education and employment hubs.

The city’s plans are not just to simply lay down a new transit line but to thoroughly create a design that caters to a broad spectrum of transportation needs. The design phase, which kicked off in 2023, is now actively seeking public input to finalize in 2026. Not only does the project hold aspirations to make public transit a more viable option, but it also aims to support cycling, walking, and driving. This includes the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of West Elizabeth Street and South Overland Trail, as detailed by the City of Fort Collins.

"This project represents a significant step forward in our commitment to providing efficient, sustainable, free transportation options for our community," Transfort Director Kaley Zeisel said, as obtained by the City of Fort Collins. The city is, therefore, extending an invitation to all residents to participate in the design process. They are keen to gather feedback and insights from those who live and work along the West Elizabeth corridor. This is seen as a critical opportunity to influence the outcome of the BRT design and ensure it aligns with community requirements.

Interested individuals can stay informed and get involved via the project's webpage, as the city will update it with engagement opportunities in the coming weeks. To get the ball rolling, an engagement event is specifically being organized for business owners along the West Elizabeth corridor. Scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, this session aims to provide a platform to voice questions and feedback about the project’s direction. Stakeholders are encouraged to RSVP for the event and thus engage directly in shaping a key part of Fort Collins's future transportation network.
