Fort Collins Police Department has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of a chilling assault and home invasion that occurred back in May 2024. According to the Fort Collins Police Department, their detectives arrested Ethan Campbell on Thursday, on suspicion of being the masked individual who forcibly entered a woman's home and assaulted her. The victim, a healthcare worker, was attacked in her sleep at the Brookview Apartments on East Stuart Street, a detail that was provided in the initial May 2024 press release.
Following the incident, in a follow-up release dated November 2024, the Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) appealed to the public for any leads. Almost eight months after the assault, a community member reported encountering a male in the same apartment complex who they believed might be connected to the assault. Utilizing this tip, FCPS detectives were able to gather evidence linking the suspect to the crime, executing a search warrant on February 1, at the alleged assailant's apartment, shared by an FCPS press release.
Ethan Campbell, who was a juvenile at the time of the assault, is being charged as an adult due to the severity of the offenses listed in the arrest. His charges include a Class 2 Felony for Attempted Murder in the 1st Degree, Class 3 Felony for 1st Degree Assault, and Class 3 Felony for 1st Degree Burglary, along with a Felony Sentence Enhancer for a Crime of Violence. A cash bond set at $750,000 has been issued, and Campbell was taken into custody without incident at Fort Collins High School.
Despite Campbell's arrest, the police reiterated that the investigation continues to be an active endeavor. "Ensuring the safety of our community is our highest priority, and we are committed to holding those who commit violent acts accountable,” said Lieutenant Adam Ruehlen, as per Fort Collins Police Department. He praised the community member whose tip was paramount to the arrest, the essential role of the media in sharing the victim's story, and encouraged anyone with additional information to reach out to FCPS.
