Over the weekend, the streets of Fort Pierce became the stage for a demonstration. Protesters, a group of locals and supporters, rallied to voice their opposition to President Trump's recent mass deportation orders. According to CBS12, dozens gathered on the corner of Virginia Ave. and US 1, spilling their dissent for the world to see, with flags of Central America and Mexico dotting the assembled crowd.
The demonstration not only attracted onlookers but also garnered supportive honks from passing motorists. Lizaldo De La Rosa, one of the peaceful protesters in attendance, added a personal touch to the demonstration, "I'm here to protest for my family. I have family that are immigrants but they're not bad immigrants," he shared in a statement obtained by CBS12. "They are helpful immigrants who are here to help my country, the economy, everything."
The local police maintained a presence, ensuring that the protest remained peaceful and safe. A post from the Fort Pierce Police Department's Facebook page noted their oversight of the gathering.
On the same day, a related protest was reported by TCPalm to have lasted several hours. The roadside spectacle featured chants, sign waving, and, the emblematic flag-waving, which lasted until about 9:30 p.m.
