A tragic road incident claimed the life of a Fremont resident on Monday evening, as confirmed by the Fremont Police Department via a social media update. Authorities were dispatched to a reported solo vehicle collision on the 40500 block of Albrae Street at around 6:40 p.m., where they found a vehicle that had collided with a tree. The driver, who later died from sustained injuries, was transported to a local hospital by the Fremont Fire Department and Fremont PD officers at the scene. The passenger in the vehicle, fortunately, emerged without injury.
The Traffic Unit of Fremont Police Department took over the ensuing investigation. They reported that the vehicle had been traveling southbound before hitting the curbline and careening across a grassy landscape into the tree. It was noted in the preliminary investigation that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, contrary to the passenger, who was secured by theirs at the time of the fatal accident. The name of the deceased, a 79-year-old local, was later released by the Alameda County Coroner's Office after they responded to the hospital on Tuesday.
