
This morning, the Fremont Police School Resource Officers were called to Centerville Middle School after a report surfaced about a student carrying a firearm on campus. The incident, which caused immediate concern amongst staff and parents, was swiftly addressed by school administrators who discovered a gun hidden inside the student's backpack. In a statement shared on social media, the Fremont Police Department confirmed that "School administrators searched the student’s backpack and located a firearm."

The involved student, whose identity has not been released due to privacy policies regarding minors, was taken into custody without incident. According to the same social media post from the Fremont Police Department, "The student did not brandish the firearm and did not make any threatening statements." The police are still investigating, potentially leading to additional charges.
Despite the gravity of the situation, there has been no indication of a continued threat to the students or the larger Fremont community. The Fremont Police Department was clear in their message, stating, "There is no immediate threat to Fremont students or the community." Consequently, all schools within the district will continue to operate on their regular schedules.
